A Solution to "Bullying" in the Workplace
Keynote, by Richard Pimentel

Many employers believe that bullies are simply supervisors who use gruff "in your face" tactics to increase production. The truth is, the bully targets a specific employee and uses a never-ending series of small, even trivial incidents and abuses to orchestrate that employee's failure.

Workplace bullying occurs four times more often than illegal discriminatory harassment.

Targets of these bullies may choose workers' compensation as their way out of an organization. While the exact number of these cases is not documented, there is no doubt that a negative and hostile employer atmosphere drives up the duration and cost of workers' comp claims. Mr. Pimentel will highlight these cases, discuss the physical manifestations of stress caused by bullying, and offer guidance for employers to identify and address these claims.
