The Implication of the Americans with Disabilities Act on the Vocational Rehabilitation Process
Job Placement and Employer Disability Management
This training presented by Richard Pimentel of Milt Wright and Associates explores the relationship of the Americans with Disabilities Act on vocational rehabilitation, job placement, and employer disability management consultation.
At the end of the training participants will be able to:
- Identify the aspects of vocational rehabilitation that are affected by the Americans with Disabilities Act.
- Be aware of the changes and trends of recent decisions and clarifications about the Americans with Disabilities Act and their implications for working with clients and employers.
- Better prepare employers to interview, evaluate, hire and supervise persons with disabilities.
- Better prepare clients with disabilities to interview and to communicate their needs for reasonable accommodations both during the interviews and on the job.
- Understand the role of the rehabilitation counselor in disclosing information about a clients disability or and need for accommodation to a prospective employer.
- Work with and advise employers on interviewing, hiring and employment aspects of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
- When not to advise employers about Americans with Disabilities Act and defer to legal counsel.
- Understand how other laws impact on persons with disabilities, such as FMLA and HIPPA.
- Understand the role that the Americans with Disabilities Act plays in retention of existing employees with disabilities and existing employees who acquire disabilities on and off the job.
The training consists of a combination of lecture, video, interactive exercises, and role plays.
